Scenario 1: Customer searches your name, Facebook ranks first
Cause: weak titles, meta descriptions and brand consistency. Google surfaces your FB page because it has richer engagement signals and the page feels more "active" than your site. Fix: put brand + service keywords in every page title ("KK IT — Hong Kong SME IT consultancy"), link your Google Business Profile to your site, add LinkedIn/FB/IG links in your footer so Google knows these are all the same company. Adding Organization schema makes it bulletproof.
Scenario 2: "Industry + location" search misses you on page 1 and 2
Cause: your content doesn't match how customers search. An IT firm's homepage is all "our story", team photos and values — but doesn't answer "how do Hong Kong SMEs pick an IT vendor?" or "Hong Kong app developer cost". Google can't link your pages to those queries. Fix: lead each service page with a direct answer, add a FAQ block, use question-format H2s ("Which scenario fits?", "How is pricing calculated?"). Long-tail keywords get covered naturally.
Scenario 3: Customer asks ChatGPT — AI doesn't know you
Cause: AI engines cite companies with clear structured data and credible external mentions. Without schema markup, LinkedIn presence, directory listings or press mentions, AI can't see you. Fix: GEO/AEO optimisation — add JSON-LD (Organization, Service, FAQPage), don't block GPTBot, ClaudeBot or PerplexityBot, build external mentions.
